SGI dead in the water

Woohoo, legends always die. Some of them real quick, others only after years of suffering. SGI, or Silicon Graphics, are one of the latter. Once the über-innovator of graphics processing computing, both software and hardware (man, I loved my O2 “toaster” and Power Animator back then), things turned ill when they didn’t see the PC wave coming and held on to their own expensive processors and dedicated operating system, IRIX. After years of selling of bits and pieces, changing strategies, joining with other companies, it seems now they are finally dead in the water with debts piling as high as their corporate office building…
